Preserving Montreal's Built Heritage
Petal-seal began in 2001 when a small group of architectural historians, urban planners, and passionate Montrealers recognized that the city's historic districts were being lost to neglect and uninformed development. What started as informal walking tours and community advocacy has grown into a comprehensive heritage services organization.
Our name reflects our approach: just as a seal preserves and protects, we work to safeguard the architectural petals — those delicate ornamental details, the carved cornices and cast-iron flourishes — that give Montreal's old neighbourhoods their character.

A Quarter Century of Service
Since our founding, we have documented over 147 heritage properties, led tours for more than 12,000 participants, and consulted on dozens of restoration projects that have brought historic buildings back to their former character.
We have also contributed to municipal heritage inventories, provided expert testimony in planning hearings, and trained the next generation of heritage professionals through partnerships with local universities.
